Capello and Fergie concerned by Rooney’s state of mind

It has emerged that Wayne Rooney bedded a 1200 pound a night hooker called Jenny Thompson while his devoted wife Coleen was pregnant with their son Kai.  They met on seven occasions over four months.

Capello, the boss of the England side will need to be convinced that Rooney is mentally fit to play Switzerland in the Euro 2012 qualifier in Basel.

He was supposed to travel with the team this morning but Capello is talking to Rooney and monitoring the Manchester United star’s mental state closely.

Rooney set up all four goals for England against Bulgaria at Wembley Stadium on Friday and seemed to be back to his best.

Since then, the cheating revelations have come to light and there is serious concern for Rooney among England staff.

Team mate James Milner does not share these concerns about Rooney’s ability to play well.  He said “You saw on Friday what a player Wayne is and, hopefully, he can go out and get a hat-trick on Tuesday.”

“He had a fantastic season last year, scoring a lot of goals and playing well and I thought he was brilliant on Friday.”

“He brought players into the game, made a lot of goals and showed how unselfish he is as well.”  “Jermain Defoe's finishing was top class. When you've got Gareth Barry, Steven Gerrard and Wayne Rooney supplying the passes to someone as sharp as him it's a good combination.”

We've had a tough game on Friday, we've recovered from a great result, trained and we're now looking to the next game.

“We're preparing as well as we can and we'll be raring to go. The only thing on our mind is getting three points for England.”

Sir Alex Ferguson knows that when things are going well for Rooney personally, his football is at its best.  If his mental balance is out of whack then this will have huge ramifications on the entire Manchester United Team.

Speculation is rife that Rooney’s poor form in the World Cup has been as a result of his worry that this particular scandal could become public.  Both Fergie and Rooney would have been aware that the truth would become known at some stage.

Now Fergie may have a long term problem to deal with, especially if Rooney’s wife Coleen decides she has had enough of her husbands philandering and files for divorce.
