Chelsea contemplate 5 million pound move for Phillipe Mexes
Chelsea may make a move in January for experienced Roma centre back Philippe Mexes as Carlo Ancelotti looks to boost his defensive options.
After selling Ricardo Cavalho to Real Madrid, the Chelsea boss does not have many options at centre back. If the club were to lose either John Terry or Alex, they would not have a great number of options to fall back on.
The 28 year old French International is said to be upset at the potential lack of first team football at Roma after the arrival of Nicolas Burdisso to Roma. Mexes, who is out of contract in the summer, has said “If I don’t find space in the first half of the season then I may decide against renewing my contract.”
The Chelsea boss is a fan of the battling defender and knows him well from his days as AC Milan boss. He may decide to make a move when the transfer window reopens and could snatch him for as little as 4 million pounds.
Claudio Ranieri, the Roma boss does not appear to be standing in the way of the potential move.
After six years at Roma, a move to the Premier League may prove to be very tempting for Philippe Mexes. It is also thought that Mexes is potentially a target of Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger.
