Real Madrid blast Redknapp over Van der Vaart deal
In a sensational claim, the Spanish super team tried to put on a brave face after losing 10 million pounds on the Dutch midfielder by claiming that Redknapp lied about a potential move to Bayern Munich breaking down.
The Tottenham boss scored one of the biggest bargains of the summer after being cleared by the Premier League to snatch 27 year old Van der Vaart.
The 18 million pound star had been hurriedly offered to the Spurs as Real needed to offload him in an attempt to shave Jose Mourinho’s squad and save on wages.
Real Madrid’s sporting director Miguel Pardeza said “It is absolutely false that Real Madrid received a 21million euro offer from Bayern Munich for Van der Vaart.”
“In fact, the German team never showed an interest to sign the player, so the allegations made in England have greatly surprised us.”
Redknapp delighted Tottenham fans and players yesterday with his squad receiving a considerable lift from Van der Vaart's capture.
Jermain Defoe, the England striker said last night “It's an amazing signing. What a player.”
“I remember playing for England Under 21's against Rafael when he was with Holland's Under 21 side and he was a special player back then.”
“He will definitely help the team. He will always want the ball, he is technically gifted and he is at his best playing between the lines and making things happen.” “It's an excellent signing and everyone is looking forward to playing alongside him.”
