More Manchester United News on Bid for Everton’s Jack Rodwell
Everton are said to be very eager to keep the Under 21 ace but may find the deal impossible to refuse.
Jack Rodwell, 19 is a central midfielder who can also play at centre half. He has been compared to a young Rio Ferdinand. He is currently on international duty with the England Under-21 squad at the Under-21 European Championships in Sweden, where the Young Lions have earned a place in the final.
The young defender has surprised everyone with his level head and ability to fit into the first team at Goodison Park and with the injuries that the Toffeemen suffered last season, Rodwell eased them with his solid performances.
Now it appears the young man has attracted the attention of a 'top four' team in Manchester United.
Manager Sir Alex Ferguson is keen to sign Rodwell to bolster his squad as they prepare to defend their league title again next season.
United have been unsure about the right time to act on Rodwell. They could act now or wait until the end of this campaign, when he has another season to his name.
The risk is that if they wait a year, his value will have skyrocketed. For this reason, they make a move before the transfer window closes.
Aodwell has been at Goodison Park since he was seven and became the clubs youngest player in Europe at the age of sixteen.
He made his Premier League debut in March 2008 and scored last season in their 3-1 home victory against United.
