Nemanja Vidic signs new contract with Manchester United
Manchester United’s Nemanja Vidic has signed a £18 million contract to stay at the club. He will be earning £90,000 a week, this means that Jose Mourinho will not be able to attract him to Real Madrid.
Alex Ferguson has kept the 28 year old Serbian defender simply by making him one of the highest paid players in the club. Vidic was signed in 2006 for £7 million and he had two years left on his £70,00 a week contract. Now United have given him a two year extension and improved other terms on his remaining two years which brings his deal to a huge £18.72 million.
Players from Manchester United who were at the World Cup have been given the tour to the United States off so Vidic will not be signing his contract until he comes back from holiday next month.
David Gill the United Chief Executive said, "I am very pleased to confirm we agreed terms with Nemanja on a new long-term deal. We've shaken hands on it and we're confident it will be signed in early August. It's great news."
Rio Ferdinand will be hugely boosted by Vidic’s decision as he is currently suffering from fitness problems.
David Gill will also be discussing a new contract with Wayne Rooney who at 24 only had two years left on his current one. Gill said, "The intention is to meet with Wayne and his advisors when he's back from holiday with a view to sorting out a new deal for him."
