World Cup 2010 Golden Ball Winner Forlan to Replace Torres
If Fernando Torres does choose to leave Liverpool, it is widely reported that Roy Hodgson’s pick to replace him will be World Cup 2010 Golden Ball winner Diego Forlan.Throughout the summer there has been speculation about the future of Torres, both Chelsea and Manchester City appear to be prepared to pay vast amounts of money for him.
Officials from Liverpool recently contacted Forlan’s current club, Atletico, to see if he was available and how much he would cost. A few years ago Forlan had a tough time in England playing for Manchester United and left very quickly.
Liverpool fans are familiar with Forlan though, however, only from watching him upset their team. He once devastated Liverpool fans with a brace against the team whilst playing in the Premier League and last season he scored against Liverpool, eliminating them from the UEFA Europa League and then went on to win the tournament with the side form La Liga.
Forlan, who is now 31 years old, has been valued at fifteen million pounds. He regularly insists that he is happy playing in the Spanish capital however, there is speculation that he might be tempted back to England, if only to prove those who criticized him in his Manchester United days wrong.
