England finally got off the mark in Australia today, turning over the 1/7 favourites. Australia were the very well backed favourites at 1/7 with one customer from London losing a £34,611 bet placed on the Aussies prior to the toss.
William Hill were offering 16/1 for an England victory with a bonus point with one patriotic punter £800 richer after wagering £50 on that surprising outcome.
The bookies still make England outsiders at 13/8 to qualify for the final and 4/9 they fail to do so and England are offered at 12/1 to win the CBI series.
"We have been hit for six by punters on this tour and today's win is a major relief, if England can go on and win it we stand to win a fortune," said Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
