Summer Soaking- Not Sizzling Summer
After the vast majority of the British Isles took a soaking over the Bank Holiday, bookies William Hill have created a number of weather specials to whet punters appetite and to see if people think it will be a soaking or a sizzling summer. They offer 5/6 that it rains during the British Grand Prix; 3/1 that June is the wettest on record; 6/1 that the August Bank Holiday is wetter than the May Bank Holiday; 25/1 that the first Monday of the Wimbledon is a washout and 33/1 that rain interrupts play every day of the tournament.
Despite the recent wet weather William Hill's are still the shortest price they have ever been that a temperature of 100f will be recorded in 2007, after heavy support in April and early May with William Hill's cutting the price from 12/1 to 3/1 in the last six weeks.
"Our shops have seen a surge in turnover over the weekend, with the public looked for indoor leisure activities and as usual we have seen lots of interest in our weather wagers. But despite the recent rain our biggest liabilities are for the Temperature to top 100f this year and if does then the industry will be handing over a £1 million to punters," said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
