Boat Race Betting Gets Off To A Flyer

Last updated: 13/03/2008 16:40

It is one-way traffic in the Xchanging Boat Race betting with 95% of wagers accepted by William Hill placed on Cambridge.

As a result, William Hill have cut the price of Cambridge winning this year's Boat Race from an original quote of 8/11 to 4/7.

The bets on Cambridge include a £6000 wager from a William Hill punter in Windsor who was dubbed the 'Boat Race Boffin' last year after backing the winners Oxford to the tune of £13,000, the biggest bet accepted in Boat Race history.

"Cambridge have been the favourites from day one but the real catalyst was when Oxford switched their coxswain. The fact that the 'Boat Race Boffin' has switched allegiance to Cambridge tells the story for me", said William Hill 's spokesman Rupert Adams.

William Hill odds to win the Boat Race: 4/7 Cambridge, 5/4 Oxford, 100/1 Dead Heat.

Who will win the toss? - 10/11 Cambridge, 10/11 Oxford.

2/1 For Oxford to change their coxswain again.

33/1 either or both boats to sink. (last sinking occurred - 1978, Cambridge).

6/1 for the record time to be beaten (16 minutes and 19 seconds).
