Punters Bet McClaren Is A Goner

Last updated: 13/03/2008 16:36

Steve McClaren is being backed to lose his job as England manager before the Euro 2008 Finals get underway say bookmakers William Hill.

"We have not taken a single bet of more than £10 for McClaren still to be in charge when the Euro finals kick off" said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. "However, there is plenty of support for him to be gone by then."

McClaren is a 6/5 chance with William Hill to cease to be England manager before the Euro 2008 finals get underway next year and 8/13 still to be in charge at that time.

The bookies have lengthened England's odds for qualifying for the final stages from 2/5 to 4/7 after their disappointing draw (5/4 not to) in Israel, and also pushed their odds of winning the tournament out to 8/1 from 7/1.

However, William Hill are backing England to hit form against Andorra, offering 7/4 that they will score six or more times in a game they are 1/100 to win, 66/1 to lose and 15/2 to draw.

William Hill make England - one goal in five games - 8/11 favourites to score the most goals of the five 'home' nations on Wednesday, with Wales (v San Marino) Even money; Republic of Ireland (v Slovakia) 20/1; N Ireland (v Sweden) 40/1; Scotland (v Italy) 100/1.

With controversy raging over whether Lampard and Gerrard should play together, William Hill are offering odds of 4/7 that, assuming they both start, the pair will both finish the game against Andorra on Wednesday, and 5/4 that they will not both be on the pitch when the final whistle sounds.

William Hill are offering 4/7 that Johnson will finish if he starts (5/4 that he will not finish if he starts); 4/7 that Lennon will finish if he starts (5/4 will not finish if starts); 8/15 Rooney will finish if he starts (11/8 that he will not finish if he starts); 1/ 4 Lampard will finish if he starts - 11/4 that he will not finish if he starts; 2/9 Gerrard will finish if he starts - 3/1 will not finish if he starts.

With Steve McClaren insisting that all is well between him and Wayne Rooney, William Hill are betting on what will happen first to the Manchester United player in the match against Andorra, and offer 10/11 that he scores; 10/3 that he is substituted; 9/2 that he receives a yellow card; 11/2 the full time whistle blows; 6/1 treated on the pitch by physio/trainer; 40/1 is red-carded.
