After a string of three figure bets of up to £400 a time, William Hill have slashed Alex McLeish from 6/4 to 4/9 favourite to become Scotland's next permanent manager.
The bookies lengthened the odds of his potential rivals with original favourite Tommy Burns out to 8/1; Gary McAllister and Craig Levein both 10/1; Billy Davies at 14/1 with Joe Jordan, Jimmy Calderwood and Archie Knox all at 20/1.
"When the serious McLeish money started to come in, support for other candidates began to disappear, leaving us no option but to shorten his price drastically in an effort to stem the tide of cash" said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
