Skiing - Paerson Makes History With Gold
Sweden's Anja Paerson became the first person to win gold medals in all five world championship disciplines with victory in Sunday's downhill.
Paerson won her third gold of this world championships in Are, Sweden, in a time of one minute 26.89 seconds.
Lindsey Kildow came second, 0.40 secs behind, with Nicole Hosp in third.
Paerson arrived at the event with no wins so far this season but will leave with three, having already taken gold in the super-G and super-combined.
Her world championship hat-trick matches the achievement of her great rival Janica Kostelic, who won three golds at Bormio in Italy two years ago.
The latest wins take the 25-year-old's career total to seven world titles.
"It was a dream for me to come here and win the downhill after last year," said Paerson, who had to settle for bronze at last year's Winter Olympics. "It's too good to be true. It was important for me to see the No. 1 next to my name on the scoreboard. It was one of my worst downhills of the week but I kept fighting all the way down. To win after such a fight is even more exciting."
