40/1 For Maradona To Dash England's Hopes

Last updated: 13/03/2008 17:01

Bookmakers William Hill have opened a book on Soccer Aid (from which any profits will be donated to UNICEF) and make the Rest of The World XI their 11/10 favourites with Robbie Williams' England team offered at 13/8.

William Hill are offering 5/2 that Robbie scores during the big match and 33/1 that he scores a hattrick but perhaps the bookies' biggest fear, following the news that Maradona is being flown in as a replacement, is that Maradona will break English hearts for a second time by scoring a second 'Hand Of God' goal - an eventuality for which William Hill are offering 40/1.

"I don't want to pile on the pressure but if the England team win then it could be a great boost to our World Cup team, so come on Robbie - make sure that they take that on the chin," said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams.
