Cowboys Gamble On Owens To Improve Chances For Super Bowl
The Dallas Cowboys signed controversial wide receiver Terrell Owens to a three year contract. With all of the major signings taking place over the past weeks, Sportsbook.com, an online sportsbook and casino, is updating their NFL lines to reflect how these acquisitions will impact who will be the 2007 Super Bowl champion.
The Cowboys have seen their Super Bowl odds improve from 20-1 to 11-1 since acquiring TO and they have also improved their odds to clinch the NFC Championship, their odds improving from 7-1 to 4-1, behind the Seahawks at 7-2.
Not surprisingly, the signing of outspoken Terrell Owens has sparked conversation throughout the NFL as to whether the veteran wide receiver will elevate the Cowboys' offence or burden them with his antics. "TO is an exceptionally talented player with the ability to make any team he plays on better," said Alex Czajkowski, Marketing Director, Sportsbook.com. "Coach Parcells is renowned for his ability to communicate well with players, so if he can keep TO's ego in check, expect the Cowboys to make a serious run at the Super Bowl this coming season."
The Philadelphia Eagles, who unloaded Owens have seen their Super Bowl odds plummet from 20-1 to 30-1, and their NFC Championship odds drop from 8-1 to 13-1.
The Cleveland Browns have also seen their odds improve due to the recent signing of linebacker Willie McGinest to a three year contract. The two-time Pro Bowler and three-time Super Bowl champion should offer some veteran experience to the Browns, who went 6-10 last season. Cleveland's odds have improved from 100-1 to 60-1.
The Indianapolis Colts started off perfect in 2005, but the road became rocky and ended when they were routed by the eventual Super Bowl Champion Steelers. Despite this, odds makers have placed Manning and company ahead of Rothesberger's squad to make another run. Current lines are set at 6-1 for Indy, while Pittsburgh sits second at 10-1. Although their odds have decreased slightly, Indianapolis is also the favorite to take the AFC Championship at 3-1 from 13-5.
