Bookies Bitten By Crufts Gamble
Bookmakers William Hill took a hit from the unlikely source of Crufts when Tibetan Terrier, Willy won 'Best in Show' costing the bookies a five figure sum.
When William Hill opened the betting, Utility category was the 10/1 outsider but was quickly backed down to 2/1 before the bookmakers suspended the betting.
Punters had an anxious wait until Sunday night when Utility did indeed win.
"It turns out that Fabulous Willy is the Martin Scorsese of the dog world and has swept the boards since he came on the scene but failed to win the big one until now," said William Hill's spokesman Rupert Adams, who added: "You could keep a pack of dogs in Pedigree Chum with the sums we have lost and people in the office are looking at me as if I have stepped in something. I hope we don't open a shop in Tibet as, after this, it is certain to be my next posting."
