Scolari To Be England Boss? Don't Bet On That
Bookmakers William Hill have slashed the odds about Luis Felipe Scolari getting the England job from 16/1 to 15/8 second favourite - but have taken virtually no money at all for him.
"If Scolari is as close to being appointed as the media is suggesting, why is only one punter prepared to risk a bet of £100 on him?" asked William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. "This has all the hallmarks of a PR effort for Scolari about it - when Sven was appointed to the job several years ago his odds tumbled from 33/1 to 3/1 in the space of an hour - backed up by some hefty bets but we've seen almost no support for Scolari even today and we'd be delighted for him to get the job as we'd make a hefty profit."
William Hill now make Steve McClaren 5/6 favourite to get the job - his odds have been lengthened from 1/2. Martin O'Neill is 100/30 third favourite with Alan Curbishley at 12/1 and Sam Allardyce 14/1.
