Despite being pictured with a baby's dummy in his mouth, John Terry will be appointed as England's next permanent skipper, say bookmakers William Hill, who have now closed their book on the position after 95% of the bets they took were placed on the Chelsea man.
John Terry was backed down from 7/4 to 1/2 favourite to get the job, ahead of 11/4 shot Steve Gerrard, with Frank Lampard and Gary Neville both at 8/1; Rio Ferdinand 16/1 and Michael Owen at 20/1.
"Our information suggests that the job is Terry's if he wants it - and who is going to turn down an offer like that?" said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.
"We were unable to take any serious money for any other candidate, so have decided to close the book , at least temporarily - although we are still happy to take bets for Wayne Rooney, who is a 33/1 shot."
