This week’s new from the world of online poker
Most of the focus this week has been on HR 2267 in Washington, however, there has been a few other significant developments in the poker world.
It has been a relatively quiet week in the poker world but there has been a bit of action.
The poker community has been most active around Washington; they are working hard to have pro-poker legislation pushed further than it has ever gone before. At the moment HR 2267 is on the way to the House floor having passed the committee markup by a margin of 44-22-1.
However, the bill did have a number of amendments made to it including a ban on credit card deposits and strict regulations on who will be able to obtain licenses which may make it hard for sites such as PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker in the future.
The latest season of the World Series of Poker on ESPN started two weeks ago, but last Tuesday saw the first real action with a two hour broadcast of the final table of the $50,000 Poker Players Championship. The ratings have been up for the poker program since they improved the format and made a few other changes this season such as showing the player’s position as part of the graphics of each hand.
If watching WSOP on ESPN isn’t enough for you, you will soon be able to find more satisfaction on Facebook. This week the WSOP announced a new partnership with Playdom, they are launching a WSOP branded version of Playdon’s play money poker software. Until now Zynga has been the most popular Facebook application, but the popularity of the WSOP could soon push Playdon up in the rankings.
In other poker news from the week, there has been a security flaw discovered on the Cake Poker Network which is similar to the one found on UB Poker earlier this year. They are currently working on fixing the flaw and Cake Poker Room Manager Lee Jones issues a public apology very quickly.
