Beginners Guide To Online Poker

You’ve decided you want to play poker, but no one in your circle of friends wants to come over and get into a game.  What are you to do?  Go play online, of course.  The days of sitting down with a group and playing live poker are starting to dwindle as more and more poker rooms pop up online.  The popularity of the game - especially Texas Hold’Em - has grown by leaps and bounds.  Plus the option to sit in the luxury of your own living room wearing your slippers while you play is pretty darn appealing.

Playing online poker is also great for the novice.  You can learn from the many online poker schools and practice for free with ‘play money’ until you are comfortable enough to create a real money account and do a little serious poker playing.  Getting started, however, can be a bit on the daunting side when you start to look for a room that appeals to you.  The best suggestion would be to do a little due diligence and find a site that offers free play, good bonuses that are easy to secure, and an arena that offers play for every skill level.  Once you have done that, download the software onto your computer and start taking a look around.

If you find a few online poker rooms that suit you, download the software and try them all.  Make sure they give you ‘play money’ so that you can get a real feel of how the site works and what it has to offer.  Once you find the room - or even rooms - that feel right for you, look into the many deposit methods they offer and create your real money account.  This usually doesn’t have to be a separate account from your play account.  Some rooms offer immediate bonuses when you deposit money so if your account is suddenly a few bucks richer, it’s not a mistake.

Start small with the $1.00 to $2.00 buy-ins and get a feel for the other types of players at the site.

With a real money account the variety of play changes.  You are now able to enter free rolls, tournaments, and other cash tables.  Whatever you do, don’t play at tables that are beyond your skill level.  Start small with the $1.00 to $2.00 buy-ins and get a feel for the other types of players at the site.  This is another good reason to test the poker room before buying into it.  By testing the room, you’ll be able to watch a few games and see how high or low the stakes runs, the size of the pots, and the aggressiveness of your potential opponents.

Playing poker online is supposed to be enjoyable and if you discover that the room you are playing in seems to be above your skill level, look for another one.  With the range of online poker rooms out there, you should have no problem finding one that suits your particular needs and style.  Test the room out thoroughly before making a cash deposit and when you do decide to join, make sure there is nothing between you, your computer and your fuzzy slippers as you settle in to enjoy a fun game or two of poker.
