License plate poker hits the road
Salt Lake City is playing an interesting form of poker this ski season.
New states license plates were recently issued across Utah with a skiing background and the slogan, The Greatest Snow on Earth. The plates have six characters made up of a letter, followed by three numbers and two letters.
License plate poker entails using the numbers and letters as playing cards. The letters A, K, Q and J are equivalent to Ace, King, Queen and Jack, a 0 equals 10, and all other numbers represent their own value. Other letters are worthless.
So if your license reads for example K444MK, you would have a full house, with a pair of Kings and triple 4s. You cant get a flush in license plate poker, but a straight is possible, as in J098QL, equivalent to an 8,9,10,J,Q straight.
Players must take a photo of their license plate, from which a 5 card poker hand will be selected. At the end of the season, the player with the best hand will win a prize. A new pair of Rossignol skis and a Burton snowboard are up for grabs.
