Sex and the City of London

Fans waited hours to see the stars of the film Sex And The City appear on the red carpet.    It was the world premiere of the film and it took place in London.  The film will be on show in the UK from 28th May.  This film has been on and off in the making for the past four years.  Many fans have been waiting with baited breath for it to happen, after the much-loved series ended.  Many were there to see just what the actors - Sarah Jessica Parker, Kim Cattrall, Kristin Davis & Cynthia Nixon - would be wearing.  According to the fashion pundits the outfits were a lot more conservative than what was expected.  Nevertheless, the gowns were beautiful and classy.  Needless to say there must have been a fan or two who hoped to catch a glimpse of a lot more flesh.

The television show Sex And The City has fascinated viewers and claimed fans from all over the world.  When it first started nobody knew exactly how the viewers would take to this particular subject.  Women’s sexuality was a topic that had been shrouded in mystery.  They took a chance and women all over warmed to the exploits of the characters in the show.  When it became apparent that their lives were not that far off from many real women the show took off.  There were those who decided the show was smutty and there were those who admired it for treating women like equals in the sex game.

The movie is of course about the four friends who are living their lives in the New York city.  Like many other women they are doing the best they can to lead successful lives.  The characters of Miranda, Charlotte, Samantha and Carrie are all in their forties but it is believed that one of the characters is going to have a fiftieth birthday in the film.  This is another important event for women in general who have to put up with ageism from Hollywood and everywhere else.  This alone is enough for women viewers to support the film.  The characters represent the many levels of womanhood in an open yet humorous way.    

There are many male viewers who admitted they had learnt a great deal from watching the television show over the years.  Candace Bushnell wrote the original columns for the New York Observer which were the inspiration for the Sex And The City television show.  The show’s enormous success finally culminated in a film being made.  It is not known if there will be any other Sex And The City films.  Lead actress Sarah Jessica Parker did not comment on this.

To the disappointment of the many female fans at the premiere Mr Big was nowhere to be seen.  This character is played by Chris Noth.  Mr Big is Carrie’s love interest.  Fans have been kept in suspense because the actual plot of the film is not known.  The film is to be screened in Berlin on 15 May and will be seen on 27 May in New York.
