London celebrates Poker in the Park

UK capital gears up for WSOPE Poker has taken off in the UK in the last few years and has a huge following these days. In fact, the only World Series of Poker events to take place outside the USA have been in London, with last year’s inaugural WSOPE – the European leg of the tournament. September will see the second WSOPE in London, and to get Brits in the mood, next weekend is the annual ‘Poker in the Park’ festival. This two day event takes place in Leicester Square, the heart of London’s theatre and casino district, from 15 – 16th August 2008. To take part in the many tournaments, talks, book signings and competitions and to meet the pros, come along to Leicester Square on Friday from 4 – 9pm and all day Saturday (10.30am – 6.30pm). Events on the day will include: • Free hourly tournaments – No Limit Texas Hold'em Several tournaments will take place on the grass, including the Sky Poker Cup, the London Pub Poker Trophy, the Nuts Poker League Challenge, the England Poker League Cup and the Bluff Europe Championship. Tournaments can seat up to 90 players, so be sure to get there early to get a place. There will even be a ‘Poker Academy’ where you can meet the pros and get some useful tips. Poker pros who will be imparting their wisdom include Tony Holden, Paul Jackson, Neil Channing, Liv Boereee and Montel Williams. You can also pick up some poker gear, from chipsets, to caps to strategy books.
