Celeb photoshoot bans make-up and airbrushing There has been a great deal of criticism over the years regarding the use of airbrushing. It is a method that makes photos look one hundred percent flawless. The natural ‘imperfections’ of a model or actress or anyone at all are simply covered up. It is believed that this practice along with the insistence that models be unnaturally thin leads to many self-image problems in young people. In other words airbrushing is used to promote looks that are unattainable. Advertising has relied heavily on this kind of method to promote billion dollar industries. The music and fashion industries are mainly aimed at youthful audiences and so it would be fair to say that their advertising does influence a group of people who are easily influenced. True to form it is the young market that is being bombarded with perfect images that are impossible to achieve because they are not real. A good example is the recent Sex and the City premiere where it was noted that the female stars did not look as young and flawless as their promotional posters. In real life these women are in excellent shape but it seems that this is not good enough for the powers that be. It seems unlikely but Heat Magazine has made the decision to show their models as they truly are. This magazine has asked celebrities to go to the extreme. All the models being used are celebrities who have agreed to be shot without a stitch of makeup or hair styling. It seems that Heat Magazine wants to show their readers what natural beauty is. Some of the celebrities who will be taking part in the Heat Magazine shoot are: Tara Palmer-Tomkinson – 36 Claudia Wnkleman – 36 Davina McCall – 40 Myleene Klass – 30 Fearne Cotton – 26 These celebrities have gone against the rules and exposed all their ‘flaws’. The only airbrushing used was on Fearne. They removed her tattoos which ‘annoyed’ her. Mylene admitted that she has a freckle, lazy eye and hardly any eyebrows. She also stated that women were ‘under pressure’ to live up to standards that were ‘unattainable’. Davina believes it is important for women to be seen as they are i.e. not perfect in public. In fact, it is important for women and especially teens to know that there is a difference between grooming and airbrushing. A woman will look her best if she eats balanced meals, does moderate exercise and generally takes care of herself in a holistic manner. These are skills that should be passed from parent to child. Heat Magazine and their UK celebrities are taking a brave step in highlighting true reality. A healthy lifestyle is the greatest benefit to a woman’s good looks as is proved by the oldest celeb Davina. Even without any artificial help she really does look good. Document Actions |
