Girl Power Reborn

Girl power

Former Spice Girl Geri Halliwell has written a series of children’s books, due to hit bookshops soon.  She is the latest celebrity mum to pen a kids’ story, following the efforts of the Duchess of York, Madonna and Katie Price aka Jordan.  Jordan called her literary contribution Perfect Ponies, while Madonna’s stories are about The English Roses and Mr Peabody’s Apples – how very English.

Halliwell has described her stories as ‘the adventures of nine year old Ugenia and her friends’.  She has called Ugenia a ‘re-birth of girl power’.  Ginger Spice says her stories are character driven.  For example, there is a character that is a chef based on her uncle.  Halliwell admits this character is a cross between Gordon Ramsay and George Michael.

She also had a character based on Posh Spice, named Princess Vattoria.  She said this particular character did not make it into the stories but Ginger Spice did not say why.  According to Halliwell, Victoria Beckham had read it and thought it was ‘cute’.  This is a character that would have held a lot of interest for many readers.

Geri gave birth to daughter Bluebell Madonna in May 2006.  She briefly toured with the reunited Spice Girls in 2007, but has now decided to concentrate on writing.

Geri Halliwell made a start on the children’s book series approximately four years ago.  When she was in Los Angeles she did some writing.  A friend said she should carry on with her writing and also contact a publisher.  She took his advice and was asked to do eighteen stories.  Halliwell is aware that there will be those who question whether or not she actually did the writing.  Ginger Spice affirms that she is indeed the author.

The first book is to make its appearance on 2 May, with future episodes coming out every month until October 2008.
