Kerry Katona Diagnosed

There have been rumours flying around about Kerry Katona. The suspicion that she had a substance abuse problem was fueled by her off balance behaviour in public. Fans had noticed that she was knocking back the booze in a pub in Spain. But the biggest indicator that something was very wrong was during a television interview. Phillip Schofield and Fern Briton interviewed Kerry during their This Morning show. Kerry’s behaviour was so noticeably odd they were very straightforward and asked her if she had a ‘drinking problem’. According to Fern they were most concerned about Kerry because she seemed to be having trouble concentrating and was slurring her words. Kerry’s answer to the question was ‘no’. Kerry explained she was bi-polar and on medication. Later her husband went on to say she had taken her medication four hours later than usual the night before her appearance on This Morning. Kerry has had more than the usual personal problems since she was one of the Atomic Kittens. It is also known that the singer had a very difficult childhood. Those who know Kerry know that she does drink a lot. In fact, her husband has said those who don’t know her just think she is a ‘drunk’. But now Kerry has said she is indeed ‘an alcoholic’. The singer explained that she was ‘diagnosed’ with this problem about four years previously. Kerry admitted that when she is at her worst she can easily down fifteen vodka or schnapps shots in a day. She says not many people know that she is an alcoholic. This is the very first time she has made it public. Kerry said she can ‘go for days without a drink but it is hard’. Her husband hoped that people would be more understanding. He says his wife is not a ‘drunk’ because she has a diagnosed problem. Kerry herself won’t make any promises because it is so hard for her to keep off the drink. But she does try very her best. Both Mark and Kerry say she was not drunk during the This Morning show. Mark maintains she took her meds late and that she only had one drink that night, a vodka and Red Bull. Kerry has admitted she still has a drink ‘like any other twenty eight year old’. Somebody with authority should let Kerry know that an alcoholic cannot have a drink like any other twenty eight year old. An alcoholic cannot drink alcohol at all. Perhaps this should also be explained to Mark. Being ‘understanding’ is not going to keep Kerry sober. Not drinking alcohol will. Even if Kerry was not an alcoholic it would be bad for her to drink because she is bi-polar. This means she has a chemical imbalance and drinking alcohol will only make it worse. It seems like Kerry and Mark have not grasped the fact that she should not have had a drink because she is bi-polar and because she is on medication. Kerry, her family and friends need professional guidance and lots of the right kind of understanding.
