Helen Mirren On Using Drugs

Okay, this is news that will shock the socks off most.  Dame Helen Mirren has opened up about her drugging past.  She said she had used cocaine at parties.  She had decided to stop this habit in the early eighties.  Her reason for stopping her drug of choice was Klaus Barbie the Nazi.  She found out that he was getting money from cocaine in South America.  When she heard about this, she understood how the drug was making its way to the party scene, including her own.  According to the Dame, she ‘loved’ using cocaine.  She did say that she only used ‘a little at parties’.  It was when she read a newspaper article about Klaus Barbie that she saw the link between what she called ‘my little sniff’ and the Nazi war criminal.

On the other hand, marijuana got the thumbs down from Helen.  Her words were ‘I hated it’. She explained that this drug made her feel ‘miserable and paranoid and unhappy’.  She also put a stop to that habit.  The actress had spoken about having a ‘bad experience with LSD’ when she was in her twenties.  Previously, Dame Helen had also revealed that she was date raped.  She said this had happened to her more than once.  She hadn’t been beaten up but had been in locked in a room and made to have sex against her will. She said, in those days, you didn’t talk about it.  She also spoke about her experience when she met the queen.  The actress said it was all ‘horsey chat’.
