Adele rakes in the nominations for 54th Grammy Awards
Brit Pop star Adele bops the competition and carts home 6 nominations for the prestigious Grammy Awards of 2012
Despite being laid up in a Boston hospital, magic-voiced Brit pop star Adele gets six nods from the Grammy nominations committee. Adele beat out competition from major stars: extremist Lady Gaga and blonde cutie Katy Perry among others. But to take home the trophies, she will still need to battle it out with the world’s top vocalists and songwriters. She has been nominated for such biggies as Record of the Year and Song of the Year (for Rolling in the Deep) and Album Of The Year (21). In addition, Adele is up for Best Pop Solo Performance for Someone Like you from her album 21 and Best Pop Vocal Album for 21.
Adele, a Londoner, was recently in Boston, Massachusetts, for surgery for throat problems that have been dogging her persistently. Just a few months ago, she cancelled her stateside tour. Since then, she has been following the doctor’s orders, which include resting herself -- and her voice.
From her location in Boston she told her fans: "I have absolutely no choice but to recuperate properly and fully, or I risk damaging my voice forever."
To communicate, she has been using a voice application on her phone, it’s been reported, similar to one used by Stephen Hawking -- and blogging.
Recent blog posts show her humour and spirit: "I'm doing really well, on the mend, super happy, relaxed and very positive with it all.
"The operation was a success and I'm just chilling out now until I get the all-clear from my doctors.
"Thank you to everyone who voted for the awards I've won recently.
"I best get back to practising my mime show."
