George Michael Could Face Prison for Drunk Driving
The 47 year old pop superstar has been given an interim six month driving ban and he will be sentenced on September 14th.
Michael was arrested in July after he crashed his Range Rover into a photographic shop near his home in Hampstead, North London.
The court was told how the singer was found slumped over his steering wheel and was not aware that he had been in an accident. The police officer who attended the scene said Michael appeared confused and “spaced out”.
This is the seventh time the former Wham! singer has come to the attention of the law regarding his conduct behind the wheel of a car.
After handing him an interim six month driving ban, District Judge Robin McPhee warned Michael that he is facing a possible jail term over the incident.
Judge McPhee insisted that he would take into consideration Michael’s previous 2007 conviction for driving while intoxicated which earned him a two year driving ban.
There are also claims that Michael was prescribed sleeping pills in the weeks before the accident.
Judge McPhee told Michael “I make it clear the options in respect of sentence remain open, including the power to imprison.
“It is a serious matter.
Your driving was extremely poor and there was an accident. There is also a conviction from three years ago."
