Victoria Beckham too Posh for Cheryl Cole
Cheryl’s stylists were dying to get her singers into Posh’s outfits. The form fitting outfits don’t come cheap, with a starting price of 2000 pounds. They have been worn by stars like Sarah Jessica Parker, Madonna, Cameron Diaz and Elle MacPherson.
Simon Cowell’s fiancée, Mezghan Hussainy is a fan of Victoria’s designs and wears them. Cheryl’s team thought that they would help her contestants stand out from the other performers.
A spokeswoman for Victoria Beckham said “We don’t loan dresses. If celebrities are photographed wearing them, they have bought them.”
Another source at Victoria’s label said “Celebrities often call ¬asking to borrow a dress, but we just don’t loan them out. Sometimes a stylist may have borrowed one from stores like Selfridges or Harvey Nichols. But as each dress is hand-made and crafted to perfection, Victoria doesn’t have stock hanging around to lend out.”
Whilst Cheryl’s acts have not been allowed to wear Victoria Beckham’s outfits, there is one person on the X Factor who is wearing them. Sexy lead singer of the Pussycat Dolls and X Factor guest judge Nicole Sherzinger.
Cheryl’s friends say that she is concerned about being upstaged by Nicole, girlfriend of F1 champion Lewis Hamilton and also by fellow judge Danni Minogue, who plans to launch her own high end fashion line. A source at the X Factor revealed that “Cheryl’s team of stylists made ¬enquiries about wearing Victoria’s clothes ¬because they are some of the most stylish around, but they were politely told, ‘No way’.”
Cheryl’s team is now working with top designers such as Roberto Cavalli, Vivienne Westwood, Chanel and Matthew Williamson. Cool young British designers like Hannah Marshall have also been approached. The source added “Cheryl would also like to include some of the young, up-and-coming designers from fashion schools.”
Cheryl fears that this situation has arisen because of comments she made about Posh in a 2009 interview. She said that she had expected that Posh would have reached out to her when news of her estranged husband, Ashley Cole’s cheating became public.
It turns out that Posh had in fact sent her a message of support and was stunned at the outburst. In January of 2009, Cheryl admitted to having got it wrong.
Also in January 2009, the Guardian reported when asked about Victoria’s dresses, Cheryl said “I would never wear any of her dresses.” “It’s for older women.”
Cheryl and Victoria had become friends at the 2006 World Cup. They regularly appeared in similar outfits. Posh is said to have been the biggest influence on Cheryl’s fashion choices.
Next week Cheryl will return to the UK from Los Angeles, where she has been staying with her new boyfriend, dancer Derek Hough, 25.
She has been meeting with TV executives in a bid to crack into the American market. One friend revealed that doors hadn’t opened in the way that she had hoped.
The friend said “She is determined to make it big in there but doesn’t feel the meetings have given her any fresh work projects.”
