Michael Cera turns his hand to poker in between filming
Whilst filming his latest film, Cara began playing poker with his co-stars and very quickly started walking away with their money.
Many actors have built themselves reputations as excellent card players and recent reports suggest that Michael Cera may be the latest actor to do so.
During filming for his latest film ‘Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World’ Cera and his co-stars had a lot of spare time as the director, Edgar Wright, worked out the film’s long action sequences. The actors started playing poker to pass the time and this was when Cera’s talent began to win him his co-stars’ money.
Cera said, "I wouldn't say I'm great. But they [his co-stars] didn't know what they were getting into. I play in a really good game in L.A. with really good players, people who are a few levels above me. I just try to walk away with my money from that game, and that's made me a better player."
However, like many other poker players before him Cera has a big weakness, the lure of the casino. He comment that, "We went to the casino a lot while making this movie, and I lost a lot of money there. Anything that I won in poker I lost at the casino."
Cera was first known for playing the part of George Michael Bluth in the Fox sitcom ‘Arrested Development’. Since this he has starred in a number of films such as ‘Superbad’, ‘Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist’ and the Academy Award nominated ‘Juno’. He will be returning to his role as George Mluth in a film length version of ‘Arrested Development’ which is due to be released in 2012. However, he should be careful, the cast of the film, which includes celebrity poker favourite David Cross, are older and wiser and probably more experienced at home poker games.
