The UK's own girl band the Spice Girls are asking the nation to take part in the Sainsbury's Sport Relief Mile. The girlie do-gooders have decided this is a good way to counteract all the excesses of the festive season. This was of course announced by Sporty Spice. The rest of the girls are in agreement and will be doing their bit for charity. It seems girl power can be expressed in a variety of ways. Other stars who will be adding their support are:

Another event that will interest each of the stars running for charity is due to take place next month. On 20 February 2008 the Brit Awards will be held in Earls Court. There are thirteen categories for the 2008 Brit Awards. Many of the Sport Relief Mile participants have been nominated for awards in the various categories. An example is Leona Lewis who will be competing for the award of British Female Solo Artist with:

Not to be outdone the former boy band "Take That" rose to the top of 2008 Brit Awards nominations. It is expected each member of the band will receive an award. The band was originally started up by Nigel Martin Smith in Manchester 1990. After selling twenty five million records in six years the group split. Like the Beatles "Take That" have fans across the generations. Since 2006 the band made a hugely successful comeback.
One of the 2008 British Breakthrough Act nominees is Mika. He was top of the Sound of 2007. Mika was rated then as the up and coming talent in the UK. He has been described by the BBC as "flamboyant". Not surprising then that this talented individual is showing his artwork. The Blink Gallery in London is exhibiting sketches, drawings and paintings by Mika. When this British performer writes songs he does a sketch as well. Mika is up against the following performers in this years Brit Breakthrough Act:

A category that means greater things for the recipient is that of Critics Choice Award. The 2008 recipient of this award is Adele. She appeared on Later with Jools Holland in 2007. Adele was at that time just eighteen years old. This interesting artist began writing songs when she was fourteen years old. It was at this time that she began playing the guitar. Adele is from South London and she went to the same stage school as Dane Bowers, Amy Winehouse, Kate Nash and Katie Melua. Adele was number one in the Sound of 2008 poll taken by BBC.
The nominations were announced on Tuesday evening. The announcement took place at the Roundhouse in Camden, North London. The award for outstanding contribution to music was no surprise at all. Sir Paul McCartney will receive his award in February 2008. The former Beatle has forty five years of performing to an adoring public. This British musician is one of the nations best loved.
