Will Miliband Sacrifice Himself? Bet On It

Last updated: 13/03/2008 16:34

David Miliband is currently 10/1 second favourite to become the next leader of the Labour Party, with Gordon Brown red hot favourite at 1/20 favourite, say bookmakers William Hill.

William Hill believe that if Miliband did decide to contest the leadership, he would have a real chance of victory, and they would then make him 3/1 to beat Brown, who would lengthen to 1/5 favourite.

"The very fact that the Brown supporters seem so keen to keep Miliband out of the race suggests that they fear he could beat their man" said William Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe.

"We'd love to see this apparent one-horse race turn into a political equivalent of the Grand National."

William Hill also currently offer Miliband at 10/1 to become Chancellor under Brown and 10/1 to become Labour's Deputy Leader.
