Revamp Plan For Resort Seafront
The seafront at one of the most popular resorts on the Essex coast could be transformed with plans for a multi-million pound development.
The Marine Plaza scheme would revamp the area between the Kursaal and the Pier with new homes, a casino, restaurants, bars and a hotel.
The plans have the support of the local MP James Duddridge.
The scheme has been put before Southend Borough Council on behalf of a local private investor.
Plans were submitted by Dedman Planning and Regeneration Ltd.
Borough council leader Anna Waite said: "In general I welcome the confidence shown by this proposal in the area.
"The regeneration of the central seafront will be crucial to improve the economic stability of the town and in improving its image. It is certainly an area that needs new life injected and this is definitely an ambitious development."
Mr Duddridge said: "We should welcome investments and proposals and that will put Southend on the map.
"This proposal is designed to breathe new life into the town and provide some zest and zing."
