Man Decides To Sell His Soul In Life-Changing Contest

Last updated: 13/03/2008 16:51

Gerald Fraller is the first person to admit that his idea to sell his soul sounds a bit crazy. But according to the 28-year-old Tampa man, he's willing to do nearly anything at this point to turn his life around, even if it means giving up control of his soul.

Fraller insists that the goal isn't to create controversy, or make some kind of statement. Rather, it's a simple business proposition. In exchange for donations to his cause, donors receive entries to the drawing. The winner gets to share in Fraller's earning potential, intellectual property, personal affairs and estate. The winner even receives an annual report outlining his activities, progress and accomplishments.

"People invest in businesses all the time through stock purchases," said Fraller. "So it occurred to me, why can't someone invest in a person in the same way. Depending upon how I do over the next 40 to 50 years, the return on the investment of even one dollar can be potentially much greater than the return on the best-performing stock or the most generous slot machine in Vegas."

How will ownership be transferred? Fraller plans to sign a binding contract, covering 20 specific clauses. The owner will not only have the right to a percentage of Fraller's income, intellectual works and estate, but will also be able to plan the date and details of his wedding, select the names of his children, determine a New Year's resolution for him each year, and come up with the inscription for his tombstone.

Fraller admits that he may come under some criticism for deciding to sell his soul. However, he maintains that it is a last-ditch effort to change his life. "I've had a hard life so far," he said. "And I'm at a point that I really want to change it for the better. I want a good job, find a woman to love, marry, get a house, have children and make a positive contribution to society. I don't want a lot, just happiness and contentment. To do that, I need to generate revenue and the only thing I have of value right now is my soul. It has great potential for the right owner and through this contest, I hope to find people out there who believe in me as much as I do."

To promote the sale of his soul, Fraller has set up a website where visitors can send in a donation, read through an initial draft of the contract and see the benefits of ownership. They can also click on links to learn more about Fraller, his interests, life story, hopes and dreams.

Since the soul sale is just beginning, a firm date for the actual drawing has not been determined at press time, but will occur sometime in 2007. Fraller is hoping to do the drawing on a nationally televised radio or television show.
