Viva Las Vegas - Singers
Singers who have made Las Vegas the entertainment capital of the world.
Barbra Streisand
Long known for her stage fright, award winning singer and actress Barbra Streisand avoided the concert stage for most of her career. But when in 1994 she sold out at New York's Madison Square Gardens and embarked upon a series of sell out gigs in Los Angeles, she decided she could also do Las Vegas. In 1999 she staged a one off New Year's Eve concert - billed as a farewell performance -at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. The show grossed nearly $15 million - a national record.
Celine Dion
In 2003 Celine Dion opened the biggest showcase in Las Vegas history for a single headlining performer. The massive 4100 seat, $95 million Colosseum at Caesars Palace was built specifically with Dion in mind. Her 90 minute fusion of song, performance art, theatrical innovation and state of the art technology, created by former Cirque du Soleil guru Franco Dragone, plays five times a week.
