London Clubs Looking At Golden Chance For Expansion
Plans have been leaked that could see the London Trocadero, a grand centre of leisure, shopping and entertainment located in the heart of the West End, become home to one of the biggest UK casinos.
News that property developer Burford, which also owns the entertainment centre, is in talks with London Clubs International about the proposal, should come as no surprise. The 500,000 square feet, vibrant amusement centre set in the bright lights of Piccadilly circus has held a reputation of being a famous landmark with a variety of entertainments since the 1700s.
London Clubs runs the Trocadero's existing casino, the Golden Nugget, but its lease is coming up for renewal.
The plans being reported would see the increased floor eclipse the UK's largest casino Star City in Birmingham, which has a gaming floor of just 21,000 square feet, by some distance. Which, given the centre's prime location in London's West End, would be no mean feat.
The two groups are united in their belief that the opportunity to dramatically expand the Golden Nugget to between 65,000 and 70,000 square feet would be hugely beneficial once deregulation in the UK casino and gambling industry is brought in. The blueprint would be to expand the existing casino into space taken up by the UGC cinema which is reported to be keen to leave the site. Combining the high profile location, the existing draw of the centre, and its association with entertainment with the opportunity that the new gaming legislation promises would make the Trocadero one of the most promising venues of the new age.
