Chinese Fantasy Online Games To Become Online Hits
China online game manufactuer Beijing Perfect World Technology Co. Ltd. has commented that the lack of cultural elements in China's online games explained what lies behind the difficulty of marketing such online games overseas amid popularity of other China related products that storm around the world.
With Euro-American fantasy online games long dominating the market as a mainstream force, very few games carrying a China label appeared in the market and even less survived the competition. Beijing Perfect World believes that most Chinese online games did not do well overseas as these products failed to express the Chinese cultural elements that attracts users worldwide.
Traditional Chinese culture is one of the world's important cultural heritages, but game developers have so far failed to take advantage of the richness that lies within. The one exception being Beijing Perfect World's "Perfect World", exported to Japan in 2006 as a China game with a rich cultural content. The game featured Chinese myths packaged with a Kung Fu fantasy content, powered with a 3D-engine to create a rich, mystic pre- historical China that became an instant hit. "Perfect World" was exported to over ten countries and was one of the most successful Chinese-produced online games around the world.
"Zhu Xian", to be launched in 2007, is set to become another Beijing Perfect World masterpiece, with a strong Chinese character. Adapted from the highly popular fantasy novel - "Zhu Xian" - referred as "the most classical fantasy fiction in the post Jin Yong era", the game features swordsmen and Daoist actions based on a mythical fantasy setting. China's most mystic mountains and landscapes are recreated with the latest high definition animation, while players experience a soul-searching journey of Daoist swordsmen to develop his or her physical and philosophical self. The game seeks to hustle China's online fantasy games to new heights, after "Perfect World" and "Wulin2", by demonstrating a new side of traditional Chinese culture.
Beijing Perfect World Technology expects "Zhu Xian" to take the lead in the online gaming race and to establish a new genre in the world online gaming scene based on Chinese fantasies and culture.
