Persistent rumours that the Spice Girls are intending to get together for a shot at the Xmas number 1 has forced bookies William Hill to slash the price of the girls gaining the coveted top spot from an original quote of 33/1 to 6/1 as punters pile on the former chart toppers.
"We have the biggest Christmas No.1 liabilities that we have ever had so early in the year, with a potential payout of £20,000 if the Spice Girls are successful, including a £700 wager at 9/1. On paper the Spice Girls have the pedigree with three Xmas Number Ones in a row in the Nineties and Take That have shown that the British public have an appetite for comebacks," said William Hill spokesman Rupert Adams.
