Jim Carrey leaps for laughs
Comedian and actor Jim Carrey has just finished filming his latest movie ‘Yes Man’.
On the last day of filming, Carrey leaped off the Colorado Street Bridge in Pasadena, California, which stands 150 feet over a fast-running river.
The movie Yes Man is about a man who says ‘Yes’ to everything for a six-month period of time, based on the book by UK comedian Danny Wallace. In the spirit of the film, Carrey decided to do his own stunt, and jumped off the 150 foot high bridge with a harness attached to his legs and waist.
Standing at the top of the bridge, before his bungee jump, Carrey joked, “That’s one small step for man, one giant leap for comedy.”
Jim Carrey is well-known for his comedy roles in Ace Ventura, Liar Liar, Dumb and Dumber and Bruce Almighty.
Big name actors rarely do their own stunts, as insurance would not cover them, but Jim Carrey is unperturbed but such issues. The film’s director initially suggested shooting the scene in the studio, but Carrey insisted on doing the bungee jump live.
Carrey seemed surprisingly relaxed before the jump, and was high on adrenalin when interviewed at the bottom. He hopes the movie will encourage people to be more open and say ‘yes’ to more things in their lives.
Yes Man opens on December 19th 2008.
