Britney in Medical Custody
Britney Jean Spears is in the news again with her younger son Jayden James. They were rushed to a medical facility in ambulances today as the result of an almost 4 hour showdown with her rapper-dancer former husband, Kevin Earl Federline and the law, in which she was said to have refused to return her children to her former husband despite a court order. During their divorce in November 2006, the court had granted custody of the children, Sean Preston and Jayden James, to Kevin. The couple were married on Sep 18, 2004 although it was legalised only on Oct 06, 2004.
This puts Spears visitation rights in serious dispute. Aerial footage shot by a local news channel also showed Spears, surrounded by six police cars, a fire engine and of course hordes of paparazzi making the long way out of her Los Angeles home and into a waiting ambulance around 7AM GMT on Jan 04.
The singer, who has been nursing a troubled personal life which has been steadily disintegrating, has been fodder for the world media for many months she was also said to be under sedative influence of an unknown substance. Pictures published on the gossip website TMZ showed her being taken away on a gurney, smiling. A source also stated that Spears had to be restrained while getting in and out of the ambulance.
Spears reached Cedars-Sinai Medical Centre where she was admitted on a medical hold, which means (according to TMZ) she will undergo a psychological health evaluation which could take up to 48 hours. TMZ website also stated that Spears 1 year old son, Jayden James, was taken to the same medical facility in a different ambulance, although it was unclear of his condition and if he needed any treatment. Spokesmen from The Cedar-Sinai medical centre refused to comment citing patient confidentiality.
Police had been called to her Los Angeles home about three hours earlier. A spokesman for the police, Jason Lee, said that Spears was refusing to hand the children over to their father as a part of the court order.
Lawyers representing Federline had a private meeting with the judge handling the custody dispute on Friday morning and were expected back there to discuss the incident. With Britneys personal life intatters, her frequent visits to rehab influenced the Judge's decision to award custody in Kevins favor in October. The head shaving episode and reports of excessive drinking and drug abuse have not helped her case either. Currently her visitation is restricted to three times a week. The same order also contains random drug and alcohol tests.
