Stella's Bra Is Anti-fur
Stella McCartney is possibly one of the most well known animal rights activists in the world. Her late mum Linda was the most famous veggie in the United Kingdom. She even had her own range of veggie products. Stella grew up being conscious of animal rights. It is a well known fact right around the world that Stella McCartney would never wear nor use fur. She has made it crystal clear her wildly popular clothing label would in no way be associated with fur.
So public is her stance on this matter it seems almost unbelievable that any of her items could be linked to advertising fur. Vogue is carrying an ad of a model wearing a gorgeous black lacy McCartney bra. Nothing wrong with that. In fact, it is good exposure for Stella’s label. But the model is wearing a genuine fur coat. The coat is a long black and white mink. It is cinched with a real leather belt. The ad is for a boutique specializing in selling fur. The name of the boutique is Hockley.
Stella is very, very angry. So angry, she is reportedly considering taking legal action. It has to be said this is a faux pas that should never have happened. How inconsiderate to link Stella’s creations with fur and leather. Stella is so committed to her cause she would not be considering her own feelings. Her concern is for the message that is sent out to the public. She wants to know exactly why this has happened. Vogue and all involved are scrambling to come up with answers.
The mink coat in question is advertised for six thousand four hundred and fifty pounds. The offending ad is in the very latest issue of Vogue. According to one source, Stella McCartney does give permission for her items to be used in shoots. This is common practice in the industry. Fashion stylists use the items and the designer / label gets a credit in the publication It’s an arrangement that works well in the fashion, décor and food industries.
It is believed the bra was given to a stylist ‘in good faith’. If Stella had been aware it was to be used in a Hockley ad she would have declined. She was not shown proofs. Stella was only aware of the campaign. The ad in question is a full page and worth thirty thousand pounds in fees. Hockley did apologise and made it clear the ad will not be published in future. It was not their intention to cause Stella to feel ‘uncomfortable’. According to them, they were told the lingerie is a vintage piece.
Hockley is a high profile furrier and even has cold storage facilities for its many well known clients. Stella is well known for scolding Madonna for wearing real fur. The two are good friends. The designer is said to be ‘deeply disappointed’ by the Vogue ad.
