Heather Does Vegas
Beauty contests may be passé in the minds of most but they are still big news in the United States. The latest Miss USA Pageant took place in the city of fake, Las Vegas. The suitably ostentatious Planet Hollywood Hotel was the venue. For some reason the Americans chose Heather Mills to be one of the judges at the contest. Heather Mills is the ex wife of Sir Paul McCartney. They were recently divorced, involving a highly publicized court dispute over money.
A few days before the pageant Mills had been interviewed By GMTV. What ensued could only be described as bizarre. There was an outburst by Mills of criticisms against Sir Paul and ‘his three girlfriends’. As far as the ‘three girlfriends’ were concerned, Mills said ‘I wish all the girls the best of luck. Better them than me’.
Sir Paul McCartney has had a string of beautiful woman to go out with since his separation from Heather Mills. The latest and seemingly most serious relationship of them all is with a beautiful and wealthy American divorcee. Soon after the McCartney/Mills divorce, Sir Paul and his new lady spent a romantic break in the Caribbean. Mills is reportedly livid that he is so close to another woman so soon after the divorce. She has refused him permission to introduce his latest love interest to their four year old daughter.
Heather Mills always believed that public opinion in the United States regarding her was very positive. She looked stunning in a plain charcoal grey gown. The ex model certainly displayed why she had been a model, she looked gorgeous. As Mills took to the podium with the MCs Donny and Marie Osmond there was loud booing. A portion of the audience was quite open about their hostile feelings towards her. It was clear that Mills was not expecting this attitude.
This was her first big appearance in public after her divorce and Mills was visibly shaken. Americans are known to be enthusiastic at forgiving anyone in the limelight. The audience did seem to be divided about the presence of Heather Mills. To her credit Mills was able to recover and keep a stiff upper lip. She took her place with the other nine judges and her performance was professional.
The Miss USA Beauty Pageant falls under the domain of Donald Trump. He is a master at getting publicity and perhaps it was no accident that Heather Mills happened to be on the panel. After the pageant Mills made light of the negative incident and said ‘I really enjoyed myself. There will always be people like that’.
During her GMTV interview she did confide that the reason she did not reside in the United States was to keep her daughter close to Sir Paul. That may or may not still be the case but she did get to stay free in a five thousand dollar a night suite at the Planet Hollywood Hotel. Donald Trump must be very pleased with the publicity his pageant is receiving due to Mills’ negative reception by the audience in Las Vegas.
