Casino Workers Head For Strike

Last updated: 13/03/2008 16:59

The roulette wheels could soon stop turning at casinos across the capital after staff at Gala's five London casinos voted to take industrial action in a dispute about pay.

Union members at the casinos rejected a pay offer of 2.25% backdated to April and 90% of those who voted in the unofficial ballot supported industrial action.

Gala is one of the UK's largest casino operators, with 32 casinos across the UK.

The GMB said that Gala had insisted that it could not meet union representatives to discuss the issue of pay until next week.

Michael Ainsley, GMB organiser said, "GMB members are fed up with the company ignoring them and not taking them seriously on pay and other important issues, such as health and safety.

"Perhaps the 90% vote for strike action will help them get the message that they are storing up bad feeling and anger among their employees who actually create the wealth of the company," he said.
