Glasgow Super Casino Decision Delayed
Glasgow will have to wait a further month to discover if the city will become home to the UK's first super casino.
The government-appointed body that will recommend the winner has delayed the announcement - because of the time it will take to print out reports of their decision.
Glasgow is competing against the Millennium Dome, Blackpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Sheffield and Cardiff in the race to host the pilot Las Vegas-style complex. City leaders say the casino and its spin-offs would create up to 2,500 jobs, bring in thousands of tourists, and boost regeneration through millions of pounds of private investment.
Glasgow is known to be one of the front-runners, after the Casino Advisory Panel ranked it second to the Dome earlier this year.
The panel was due to name the successful bidder before Christmas, but the chairman, Professor Stephen Crow, said: "We need to allow time for the printing process."
Norman Baker, the culture spokesman for the Liberal Democrats at Westminster, said: "This latest delay is almost certainly for legal reasons, rather than some spurious concern over printing.
"The expected legal challenges are likely to be a lawyer's paradise," he added.
