Huge casino development planned for Spanish desert
A $25 billion development is being planned for Spains dusty interior. Comprising two theme parks, a stadium, a race course, and thirty two hotel casinos, and - this being Spain a bull ring, Gran Escala is destined to be a huge European landmark, attracting an estimated 12 million visitors per year.
The regional government gave the go-ahead for the resort in November, and it is anticipated that it will be completed by 2017, with work starting immediately. The planned construction site lies in the Los Monegros desert in Aragón, midway between Madrid and Barcelona, a zone easily accessible from Zaragoza airport. The 5,000 acre site will also have a golf course and new residential areas.
Investors foresee the new resort as a Las Vegas equivalent in Europe, creating thousands of jobs and boosting tourism in the region. Just a two-hour flight from London, they hope to attract many Brits as well as Spaniards, who enjoy a bit of a gamble, and visitors from all over Europe.
