Retained Fireman Scoops £4.5m Jackpot

A Stonemason is preparing to carve out a dream lifestyle after scooping more than £4 million on the National Lottery.

Motorcycle enthusiast Adrian Rush, 40, from Diss, collected his winning cheque yesterday and promptly clambered aboard the bike of his dreams - a Harley Davidson.

The father-of-two scooped £4,568,286 in the Lotto Rollover jackpot on Wednesday.

Mr Rush, who also works as a retained firefighter, said he was struggling to take the huge win in.

He said: "I sometimes buy Lucky Dip tickets on the day of the draw if I have some spare change after doing the shopping. Usually I buy them for Saturday's draw but I happened to have £2 in change while we were in Morrisons so had a go. I've won a tenner a few times but I never thought I'd hit the jackpot!"

Mr Rush purchased his Lucky Dip ticket from Morrisons in Diss after doing the weekly shop with his wife Tracey, 39, who works as a playgroup assistant.

The couple found out about the win on Thursday after Mrs Rush checked the results on the internet - but she had to dash out before she knew how much her husband had won.

"My wife knew we had done well," said Mr Rush. "Then I saw that we had all the numbers and it was a £9 million jackpot with two people sharing the money. But we could not jump up and down until we had it confirmed by Camelot, which was quite nail-biting."

Mrs Rush said the couple were still pinching themselves and were trying to decide how to spend their new fortune.

She said: "Like everyone we have always dreamed of winning the lottery but now it's happened we just need to sit back and think carefully about what the future holds."

Mr Rush said the couple planned to build an extension and conservatory for their house, buy a new car and go on a Caribbean cruise. He also intends going on a fishing trip to France or Spain.

He said the couple's two teenage children and immediate family - who all live in the Diss area - would also be high on their list of priorities.
