While the rest of the online gambling world is in turmoil following the passing of anti-online gambling laws in the United States, the British people can relax in the knowledge that their online casino industry is moving towards regulation.

When the Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act was slipped in by attaching it to an existing bill and passed by Congress at the beginning of October, the online gambling industry reeled in shock. Analysts had for months been predicting that the bill would not pass and even the top experts in the field were taken totally by surprise. The bill essentially makes it illegal for credit card companies and banks to transfer payments to Online Casino sites, and brings with it additional clauses which effectively block most Americans from accessing and playing at online casinos.

While the extent of the impact that the bill will have on the global online gambling market is yet to be measured, many online gambling firms which are heavily reliant on American traffic are scrambling to make alternative plans to bring in the clients. The American online market is in turmoil, and for once, their British counterparts are sitting pretty on the other side of the ocean, happily awaiting the Gambling Act which is due to come into effect in August 2007.

The Gambling Act which was passed in 2005 is the act of a government that understands that online gambling will not simply disappear if made illegal. The British government has internalized the fact that online gambling is a legitimate pastime and is best controlled, not banned. British citizens can be proud of the fact that while another Superpower finds total prohibition as its only means of defence, the British government wishes to make online gambling a regulated industry just like any other.

The Gambling Act aims to control online and other forms of gambling in order to maintain a clean and honest industry. The main objectives of the Act are to protect children and other vulnerable people from being harmed or exploited by gambling; preventing gambling from being a source of crime or disorder and being controlled by organized criminal elements; and ensuring that gambling is conducted in a fair and open manner.

Why not celebrate your local gambling culture by exploring some of the great British Online Casinos available. Be proud of your local gambling heritage and enjoy the knowledge that Brits will soon have one of the most regulated online casino industries in the world!
