Plans to turn a nightclub into a £6.6 million casino have been approved. Stanley Leisure will relocate from Broad Street, Hanley, to the former Creation club on Etruria Road.
Regulatory body, The Gaming Commission, had objected to Stanley Leisure moving nearer to the existing Grosvenor casino, but a licensing committee sitting at Newcastle yesterday approved the application.
Dozens of jobs will be created at the centre which, it is hoped, will open in September 2006.
Stanley Leisure, which already employs 50 people in Hanley, said the relocation had been prompted by the expiry of its current lease.
