13 Really Is An Unlucky Number - For Lotto Players
It will probably come as no surprise to the superstitious, but 13 really is an unlucky number - for Lotto players at any rate.
National Lottery chiefs have revealed that of all the 49 numbered balls in the main draw, the 13 comes out least.
In 11 years, number 13 has only featured 108 times as a main ball and on just 12 occasions as the bonus.
The research for Camelot, which runs the lottery, also shows that 38 is the luckiest for punters.
It has come up 156 times as a main ball and 26 times as the bonus ball, with 25 and 31 the next best, since the lottery was launched in November 1994.
In that time, more than 1,800 people have been made millionaires with the draw paying out over £25.9billion.
Camelot's latest research shows that one in seven jackpot winners give away at least £1million to friends or family. Three-quarters of big winners also buy a new house.
Odds on becoming a millionaire in the main Lotto or Lotto Extra draw are 13,983,816 to one.
