Manchester United Casino With Las Vegas Sands

Further to the outrage expressed by Manchester United fans at the acquisition by Malcolm Glazer of over 50% stake in Manchester United Football Club, two Trades Unions have issued statements about the plans announced earlier this week for Manchester United to seek permission to develop a UK casino as a joint venture with Las Vegas Sands.

Maya Holmes Research Director of the Las Vegas branch of Unite/Here union said, "Due diligence by Manchester United fans into Las Vegas Sands will throw up Sheldon Adelson's controversial track record in the Nevada casino industry. Unite/Here union would advise Manchester United fans to steer clear of Las Vegas Sands."

Paul Kenny acting General Secretary GMB the casino workers union in UK responded to the claim by Las Vegas Sands that GMB had been reassured about the company and their employment practices said, "We have met Sands and heard their pre-match pep talk. We have yet to see the team they will field or the type of game they will play. The GMB will continue to oppose any operator attempting to establish casinos in the UK without aiming for the best achievable working conditions - and this means union recognition."
